Stephen Callow, Southwest Bank, an M&I Bank
Stephen Callow’s commitment to helping small businesses goes well beyond any prescribed business-as-usual role. For over 20 years, Callow has worked to improve the health and vitality of the area’s small businesses. He has started Small Business Banking Divisions at two different banks – Union Planter’s Bank (now Region’s) and Southwest Bank. Outside of the banking world, Callow has served in leadership positions with the St. Louis Business Development Fund, an organization that makes it easier for entrepreneurs to get access to capital, Missouri Venture Forum and Small Business Week.
Here is what others are saying about Callow:
For the entrepreneurial community in the St. Louis region, Steve has devoted innumerable hours, and more importantly, indicated a commitment and caring for the entrepreneurial and small business communities rarely matched among the business people I have worked with for many years. How he does this, I do not know, in light of the fact of great demands put on him by both his employment and his civic and church communities.

From the moment I met Steve at a Missouri Venture Forum meeting, I knew he was a banker that was taking an active role in supporting the small business community. One of Steve’s biggest strengths is his clarity of communication. He has the ability to clearly explain not only what is we are doing right now with our finances, but he also can articulate how it will impact us in the future. He is a spokesperson that is active in the community that supports small business.
